If you haven't watched the last episode of 24 (Day 5: 6:00 P.M. - 7:00 P.M.) and you plan to, don't read any further. This contains a spoiler.
My husband's birthday was Monday, so we missed the two episodes they aired, but thanks to our Tivo, were able to watch them last night.
Foxes synopsis of Monday's last episode ends as follows:
6:59 P.M.
Edgar comes running into the bullpen from the electrical room. He sees Chloe in the situation room and calls to her. She watches helplessly as Edgar falls to his death. Chloe’s eyes tear up.
They say that there are five stages of grief . . . denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and then acceptance. Now, for those stages (inspired by last nights episode of Scrubs: man, I watch too much TV):
DENIAL - NO!!! Not Edgar!!!!! Those were the words I was screaming out at the TV as I watched Chloe begin to cry and Edgar plummet to the floor. He can't be dead! The writers must have some plan on how they have some miraculous antidote that can bring some of the people back. It can even be a limited supply, just enough to bring Edgar back.
ANGER - How can they do this to Edgar? How can they kill him off? He's one of my favorite characters! I am never watching another episode of 24 ever again!
BARGAINING - Maybe I should write to Fox. Let them know how I feel and convince them they should bring him back somehow. Even if its through a twin brother (who would have to act and think exactly like Edgar - maybe named Edward). I could explain to them that I'll only watch the show if they somehow bring him back.
DEPRESSION - The show will never be the same again. What about the banter between Chloe and Edgar? We'll never see that again. The look in Edgar's eyes when he looked at Chloe. The worry and concern he obviously had for her. They were so cute and now they'll never be.
ACCEPTANCE - I'll have to get back to you on that one. I haven't quite reached that point yet.
Sure, I only say all of this in jest. I realize that it's just a TV show. Still, I'll really miss having the character of Edgar around. Maybe that's my acceptance . . .
