I was chatting with Matt on miscellaneous news. The conversation turned to optical illusions, and I found myself looking as a Wikipedia definition for depth perception in Trillian. I pulled up the full definition in my browser, and the entry included an external link to a fascinating experiment in depth perception. I was intrigued and checked out the video. It was amazing. But would it do that for real? I had to know. I downloaded and printed the PDF version, and began assembling my own dragon. Sure enough, it creepily stared down at me from a shelf above my desk.
If you have problems seeing the illusion, try looking away then suddenly look up into its eyes. It says to keep one eye closed, so that probably helps the illusion (I wouldn’t know). Also, be sure to look at it edge on so that the text points to your left. I have also found that staring at if for a few seconds will sometimes kick in the illusion as well.
